About Me

Everyone in my family talks about how we are all big readers.  My sister’s favorite story tells about how in high school she had to hide the book she was reading so Mom and Dad wouldn’t think it was a better book than what they were reading.    I am the youngest of three and fortunately didn’t have the problem my sister had.  I discovered Issac Asimov and Robert Heinlein at an early age.  A genre Mom and Dad didn’t care for.

Over the years my brother, sister, and I have often commented about how much fun it would be if we had our own bookstore.  We each spoke about the various book stores we found around the world.

After I retired from the Air Force I worked in various positions in the business world and eventually became the general manager of a small contract manufacturer.  I held that position for several years before the current recession hit.  The company struggled but survived the first half of the recession.  However, I decided I needed a change.

I left the company and moved to Sun City to start a new chapter in my life.  I had visited Sun City often to see my brother so it was a natural destination to start anew.  The addition of the new building at Food Lion meant space would be available to start the used book store I had thought about for a number of years.  Between September and October of last year (2009),  agonized over the decision.  Should I try to start a book store in this economy?  Can I run a store successfully with no past experience?  All these questions and others kept me awake at night (some still do) as I eventually decided it was the right move for me.  I signed the lease on the space Nexx Faze would vacate in October, purchased a house the week before Thanksgiving and moved to Sun City from Raleigh, NC, the week after Thanksgiving.
